Tutorial Two: Digital Camera use and applications

“A new technology is rarely superior to an old one in every feature”. Briefly discuss this statement in relation to digital camera technology. What would you consider to be some of the pluses and minuses digital camera technology holds in relation to more traditional film based cameras?
pluses:
-It is easier to develop photos
-The camera can hold more photos
-Instantly able to view the photo you have taken.
-Photos are clearer
-You are able to get the "perfect photo"
-The photo is able to be enlarged more with out pixelating compared with photos from a film.

minuses:
-You need more gadgets in order to get the most out of you camera. ie computer, printer, cds, cords etc.
-digital rot.

List some of the ways that digital images can be stored transferred and manipulated using other communications technology.
CDs,Internet,txting,pxtn,pen drive, external hard drive

Given the prevalence of image capturing devices, and thinking about the issues discussed in tutorial one, consider what sort of ethical issues may arise with their use.
permission for the use of images and when using someones image in a photo
Patient confidentiality
disposal of images
loss of images-back up
responsibility to client, family, friends etc.

Briefly discuss some of the ways that digital images could, or are, being used in occupational therapy practice.

Explain what the difference is between a digital and an optical zoom
Optical- zoom lens- change focal length and magnification
digital- crops image into smaller size then enlarges cropped portion to fill the frame again.

Explain what is meant by the term mega pixel
the small squares of colour which make up a digital image.
